Craving…

11 12 2009

Not sure why exactly, but I miss 80’s movies.

They make good ones now-a-days, don’t get me wrong, but for some reason I’ve been having a nostalgic shot to the heart-strings lately.  There were soooooo many classics in the 80’s.  From “Back to the Future” to “The Breakfast Club” and “When Harry Met Sally”.  I can’t get enough.

It was a different time, and you can tell by the movies, but there’s just something about the feelings you get by watching a well-crafted 80’s gem.  Here are a few that you may or my not have heard of already, but SHOULD take the time to watch.

Two Steps Back…

I feel guilty.

I treated myself to a “Baconator” from Wendy’s.

There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself once in a while, but when you’re trying to eat a lot more healthy…this isn’t the most effective decision.

I’ll be honest though.   They don’t mess around with the bacon.

There’s a lot of it, and it is goooooooood.

Some of you might not have heard of Brandi Carlile.

The clip below can be your introduction.

You, meet Brandi.  Brandi, meet them.

A friend pointed me to  this video.

It makes me wonder, again, why Americans are so scared of loving the world instead of dominating it.  Why are they so afraid of their neighbour?  Why are they so threatened by the notion of global sustainability when they already have more than one country could possibly need?  Why do they blindly, but passionately, line up to meet someone they know nothing about?  Why do they almost instinctively reject their established, and POSITIVE, leadership and gravitate more towards another “Bush-like” mumbler?

Why does Canada (who isn’t perfect, I know) have to share a boarder with them???

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I have a lot of American friends who are fantastic people, caring individuals, and folks that I wish I was more like.  The ignorant masses definitely do NOT speak for the entire nation, that’s for sure.

But…….wow, those masses are loud.

And obnoxious.

My brother sent me this lovely example of bathroom decorum.

He and I share the same sense of humour.

The funniest joke I could come up with had something to do with “tooting”.

Wireless…

I’ve noticed a LOT of people walking around, seemingly talking to themselves………and who are NOT wearing any form of bluetooth earpiece.

The crazies and the drunks are taking advantage of the new law, people!  Keep your guard up!  :)

Hmmmm…

15 11 2009

The other night I had the pleasure of hanging out with a friend of mine that I hadn’t seen in awhile.  Definitely a well over-due chill session, and what’s more enjoyable than good company, tasty wings, frothy beverages, and a Raptors game, right?  Exactly.

Aside from the good times of just relaxing and taking in a game, our conversation was probably the thing I took the most away with me.  I’d been dealing with, and stressing about, a few things for a little while and our quality chat made it a night of validation and realization.  Opinions I had were justified and the implications were made clearer.

I guess that’s what the good people in your life are for.  They’re able to share the good times and laughs, but also willing to journey through “stuff” with you and make sure you make it to the other side in tip-top shape.

I hope I, more and more, become that friend to others.

Welcome Home!…

Sabi has been found!

Who is Sabi, you ask?  She is a specially trained “sniffer” dog in the Australian army who went missing in Afghanistan.  Sabi was on a mission with a group of soldiers when they came under attack.  A number of the soldiers were injured in the suffle but miraculously all made it back to their base  alive.  All but one, that is.   Sabi’s handler noticed that their cherished teammate was no were to be found and believed that they had unfortunately lost her altogether.

That was near the end of Sabi’s second tour in Afghanistan in 2008.

FOURTEEN months later, a soldier surveying a cluster of abandoned shelters found a stray dog and brought it back to his base.  IT WAS SABI!!!  Their long lost soldier and friend was alive!   The Australian troops were not only extremely happy that Sabi had been found, but astonished at the idea of her fourteen month survival…in the desert!  Talk about resourceful.

Welcome home, Sabi.  And congrats on your TWO Australian Forces service awards.
